Abstract

This study examines the spatio-temporal dynamics of the landscapes of the relict grove of Sogdian ash (Fraxinus sogdiana), located within the Charyn State National Nature Park in Almaty Region, and assesses their significance for sustainable management and geosystem conservation. Changes during the period 2016...2024 were analyzed based on vegetation cover using Sentinel-2 satellite data and geoinformation methods. The methodology included NDVI time-series analysis, cartographic visualization, slope–aspect correlation, and identification of spatial patterns of biodiversity and ecological risk. These approaches made it possible to determine priority areas for landscape restoration and protection.

The results revealed pronounced fluctuations in vegetation cover associated with anthropogenic pressures (livestock grazing, recreational activities), climatic variability, and the reduction of green areas in river valleys. The study confirms the importance of continuous geospatial monitoring for detecting early signs of ecological degradation and formulates scientifically grounded recommendations for preserving the integrity of relict forest geosystems. These findings have broad implications for biodiversity conservation and sustainable landscape management in semi-arid regions.
